Decade of the MIND IV Workshop

IAS has assisted UNM students and faculty in their efforts to present their research at the Decade of the MIND Workshop in Albuquerque January 6-8, 2009. Dr. Robert Thoma, an Associate Professor and Clinical Neuropsychologist at the UNM Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology, and his students from the Department of Psychology presented some of their latest research and productively discussed their analyses with regional experts from Sandia and LANL and with experts from around the world. Their research involves the use of neuroimaging to investigate how brain and behavior interact.

The research that they presented involves investigation of brain activation during interpretation of facial emotion, and how brain function and structure may be altered by alcohol dependence in adults and in adolescents. They are also pursuing brain-behavioral research in post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and intellectual function in healthy people. Not only they were able to talk about the posters, but they had constructive conversations with researchers with interests in all of their research areas.

They were also able to attend talks by some of the most renown researchers in brain-behavioral-mind research and made the most of their access to them.
